There are multiple flashbacks in this episode as Violet tries to get information about Major Gilbert.
I really liked seeing how complex the situation between them was. He did try to get her not to fight and to find a path for her after the war while also acknowledging that he needs to use her for her skill-set because it is a real asset.
But it’s also pretty heart-wrenching and that cliffhanger… Gah. So good but so painful.
